Petromin strengthens its Management and Technical Teams

Petromin PNG Holdings Limited is ready to pursue investment opportunities in the resource sector, thanks to an aggressive and open recruitment strategy that has seen well qualified and experienced professionals join the company.

Among these new recruits are Mr. Arun Basu, General Manager of Finance & Corporate Services for Petromin. Mr. Basu has over 25 years of progressive experience in finance and administration with large organizations as well as strong international experience in financial management, accounting, treasury and taxation. From 1997 – 2002 he was the Financial Controller of Orogen Minerals Limited and then in 2002 joined Deloitte Touche Tomatsu as a senior member of the taxation team. From 2005 onwards, Mr Basu was the General Manager of Corporate Services with MRDC before leaving to join Petromin this year.

Others include Mr. Roger Avinaga, Manager for Strategic Planning and Business Development and Mr. Timboko Pyapeta, Human Resource Manager.

Mr. Avinaga has over 10 years of experience in various capacities with the Department of Petroleum & Energy. From 2004 onwards he was the Assistant Director of the Petroleum Policy Branch of the Department of Petroleum & Energy before leaving this year to join the Petromin Management team. He has a Master of Law in Petroleum Finance and Taxation from University of Dundee, UK and has received Post-graduate Honors in International Relations and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of PNG.

Mr. Pyapeta until he joined Petromin, was the Employee Relations Coordinator for Porgera Joint Venture.  He has held various senior Human Resource management roles in both the private and the public sector, including PNG Harbours Board (now PNG Ports Corporation), Ok Tedi Limited and Porgera Joint Venture and was a graduate trainee with Bougainville Copper Limited in the late 1980’s.

A graduate of the University of PNG, Mr Pyapeta also has an MBA from the University of Central Queensland in Australia.
