Petromin Senior Marketing Officer Sihl Ure recieves LNG training in Japan
Petromin's Senior Marketing Officer, Mr. Sihl Ure has returned from six weeks training with LNG Japan, one of the largest LNG trading companies in Japan.
Mr. Ure's training was under the MOU between Petromin PNG Holdings and LNG Japan which was signed in August last year.
According to the MOU, LNG Japan will train two or more Petromin staff per year on a needs basis to build capacity in all areas of Petromin's operations. In addition, at least one LNG Japan staff will be attached to Petromin to build capacity in the area of LNG Development and Project Financing. Under the program, the trainees are exposed to the various business practices within the LNG industry value chain from Upstream to Downstream.
Mr. Ure said the training was intense and practical at the same time.
"LNG projects are very different and complicated compared to the crude oil business because it involves converting gas to liquid form and transporting to other countries where it is converted back into original form for domestic energy consumption.
I received training and attended presentations by companies directly involved in LNG infrastructure development, liquefaction plants, project financing, shipping contracts, sales contracts, LNG pricing, transportation and more" he said.
Mr. Ure said the training he received from LNG Japan is relevant to PNG because there is a need for more Papua New Guinean's to understand this unique industry and to fully participate in LNG developments in the country.
The Managing Director and CEO of Petromin Group of Companies, Mr. Joshua Kalinoe said, Mr. Ure's training is part of the efforts by Petromin to train and develop its staff to be compatible in the mining and petroleum business.
"The training is part of our capacity building exercise and the more we expose our technical and administrative staff to international content of their work, the better we will be", Mr. Kalinoe said.
He said Petromin intends to send a Petroleum Engineer shortly under the same programme to Japan.
