UPNG Geology Students Gain Feild Experience and Knowledge from Petromin
Four fourth year Geology Students of the University of Papua New Guinea are gaining further experience in the field this semester break with Petromin PNG Holdings Limited.The students Nigel Bunan, Wamaba Wenge, Sion Kais and Adrian Dentana approached Petromin to gain some field experience.
Since the 6th of June, the students have undergone training with Petromin on manual ore resource calculations for the Saki Prospect and they will also spend time at Petromin’s EL580 picking up experience in 3D IP survey with Search Geophysics after June 15th. Search Geophysics of Adelaide, South Australia have been contracted by Petromin to complete 10 arrays of ground geophysics at Saki and Tolukuma. The students will be out in the field until July 2nd.
Petromin Senior Geologist and Team Leader Mineral Explorations, Dr Wilfred Lus said the students show great enthusiasm in this short term training and Petromin was glad to have them assist us.
“We aim to expose them to some hands on training in mineral exploration. They are here on a casual basis and they will assist the company on its exploration program during the break.”
