Petromin brings smile to the blind with donation to St John Blind Services
The children, staff, volunteers and blind clients of St John Blind Service are celebrating after receiving the donation of office equipment to the value of over K3000 by Petromin PNG Holdings Limited.
Petromin, Papua New Guinea’s National Oil Gas and Minerals company made the donation of an all in one colour copier and digital camera with full accessories on Tuesday, a day after the centre celebrated World Blind Persons Day.
When presenting the donation, Petromin Government Relations and Public Affairs Manager Sam Inguba said Petromin is concerned about the welfare of the disable Papua New Guineans and will readily assist in small ways to improve the capacity of important service providers such as the St John Blind Service.
“Petromin is proud to support the St John Blind Service with this donation of an all in one copier and digital camera with all accessories. This is the “Year of the Disabled” and our support is to show that those not fortunate to have all human faculties are all important members of this country.”
A delighted St John Blind Services Commissioner Ruth Sangkol said the service needed the equipment for its record keeping and they would put it to effective and immediate use.
After the donation, Mr Inguba and other Petromin staff where blindfolded and given a ‘guided’ tour of the service’s office, so that they may have a better appreciation of what it means to be blind.
